Trieste 17-18 February 2017
February 2017, in Trieste
Rosy Russo launches an appeal on the Internet early in October 2016: “Can we work together to establish a set of principles to help everyone communicate in a more responsible and civilized way online?”
Responses come from 300 bloggers, influencers and professional communicators, far more than expected. They send comments and suggestions. An initial set of principles for ethical communication is generated from this impressive collective endeavour. The online community’s ten favoured principles are incorporated in the Manifesto of Non-Hostile Communication.
Over two days
The Manifesto principles, endorsed by the Internet for the Internet, are presented and signed by Gianni Morandi before an audience of 600, including numerous journalists, influencers, communicators, teachers and entrepreneurs.
Prominent guests include Laura Boldrini, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and Enrico Mentana, Director of TG La7.
Proceedings continue with nine themed meetings.
They had their say… Different experiences, outlooks and approaches, but one thing brought them together, saying “enough!”. Let’s return to a language of respect that rejects hostility, discrimination and hatred.
Where we met
We met at the Maritime Station, a splendid building near Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia. The Maritime Station Convention Centre is one of Trieste’s most important historical monuments.
