What is the “termometro”?

To gain a more scientific approach to our work, we created a special tool to measure hostile words on the Internet.
Its aim is to monitor online and offline hate speech, through a both temporal and thematic analysis.
It measures the amount and evolution of hostility perceived in contents and behaviours.

Leading Italian and worldwide research institutes will enable us to analyse and understand the phenomenon, collecting and analysing data.

EU Kids Online

During Safer Internet Day 2018, the research “EU Kids Online”, requested by MIUR and Parole O_Stili, was shown. It regards risks and opportunities that kids and teenagers can find on the internet.
EU Kids Online is a multinational research network. It seeks to enhance knowledge of European children’s online opportunities, risks and safety. It uses multiple methods to map children’s and parents’ experience of the internet, in dialogue with national and European policy stakeholders. It has been funded by the EC’s Better Internet for Kids programme.

2018 election campaign

The “termometro” has also been used in politics, to monitor one of the most controversial areas for the use of hostile language. Its aim is to create a real monitoring hub on the main issues and evolution of the election campaign, through focus, reports and insights.

The results were published on a dedicated weekly column on “Corriere della Sera”, a major Italian newspaper.
